Southwest Detroit is unclean. There are roughly 52 sites of heavy industry within a three-mile radius, 22 of which produce enough toxic chemical waste to be included on the Environmental Protection Agency's Toxic Release Inventory. This map shows a selection of major industrial campuses, and their proximity to public schools, as well as the homes of two people highlighted in our accompanying story: Jacqueline Cason, 38, and 7-year-old Shiloh Otoo.
